Season Champions for the 2009
Season We awarded the winners of the points race at the Tour Championship played at the Grande in Jackson Michigan. Some of the flights had were decided before the 4x points event was played at the Grande. David Talsma, Jason Harrington and Adam Darrin pretty much had a lock on their flights. C and D flight were a little closer and Bud Nettleton of C flight saw his opportunity to overcome the leader at The Grande, and he took it! Bud finished second in a playoff to Brent Landis but his good play earned him enough points to claim the Season Champion trophy. Ryan Adams of D flight also played his way into the top spot by winning his playoff for 1st Place at the Tour Championship. Congratulations to the Season Champions: David Talsma Champ Flight Jason Harrington A Flight Adam Darin B Flight Bud Nettleton C Flight Ryan Adams D Flight 1st half and 2nd half points winners will have their tournament entry fee for Hilton Head paid by the MIAGT. 50% for the 1st half and 50% for the 2nd half. The Tour Championship was tough and exciting With the top points spots up for grabs in some of the flights and players that wanted to put up their last bid for a Major win in 2009 the Tour Championship played at the Grande in Jackson Michigan gave us all the perfect venue for a major. 27 tough holes of golf were played on probably the best course we played all year. The greens were the best we have encountered fast and true with some tricky pin positions. As usual players rose to the challenge with some great scores, which were very close in all of the flights. It was a perfect end to the regular season. Congratulations to the Tour Champions: David Talsma Champ Flight Bob Kelley A Flight Shawn Campion B Flight Brent Landis C Flight Ryan Adams D Flight Tour Cup (Ryder Cup) Invitation The Tour Cup will be held at Royal Scot golf course it is a 27 hole course that will provide alot of excitement for a tournament of this nature. The format is 9 holes of fourball, 9 holes of alternate shot, and 9 holes of individual match play. This event was very exciting last year, players are not only playing for themselves but they are also playing for their partners and their entire team score. Come out and experience a little bit of what the US Ryder Cup team gets to enjoy in a fun filled day of golf. We will still have our skins, and closest to pin pots for this event. The event Cost is $70.00 payable by check or The payment button is on the website. If you have a friend (does not have to be an MIAGT player) that would like to play on your team let me know we may be able to get them a spot. Get signed up as soon as possible so we can pick the teams and pairings. Look for the pairings sheet to be on the website. The page will be updated soon. Hilton Head update Despite the Michigan economy it looks like we are going to field a good size team for Hilton Head. The National Championship at Hilton Head is one of the best things about being on the tour. It takes players from all over the country and puts them together to compete for the Title of National Champion of their flight. The event is well organized and it is alot of fun. We have been preparing all of our players all year to be able to thrive in the intense competition that this event brings out of all of it's competitors. We have played the courses long and tough so that when we play the Hilton Head courses they will be very manageable. All of the past participants in this event are anxious to get back and play this event again. We would like full participation in all of the flights so please plan on playing in this great event. We have some new vacancies for the house if you want to stay with us. Reserve Your Room Sal Latella has 2 spots open for the rooms contact him at sal@gardenfreshsalsa.com. Travel: Flying: We typically fly into Savannah and drive to Hilton Head it is about a 35min drive. Carpooling From Michigan Many players carpool down to Hilton Head if you are interested in finding a ride let me know and we will try to hook you up. Carpooling in Hilton Head You can share a rental car with others to save on costs. |

| Sugarbush results Next Tournament 7-13-09 Greystone FLIGHT CHANGES |
Sugarbush Champions are tough
competitors June 27th was our 2nd major and with 27 holes on a very tough Sugarbush course players had to stay patient and keep the ball in play. Many of us fell prey to the subtle hazards and got psyched out by the obvious hazards, but a few players rose to the occasion and posted some great scores to win their flight. Like last year we had playoffs to decide who won the title, this year we had a B flight playoff between Adam Darin and Clay Welton, with 2 pars on the tough 10th hole Clay was able to better Adam on the intimidating 18th hole. We had a four way playoff in C flight between Bud Nettleton, Gwen Wafford, William Zollars and Jason Mchugh. Bud was the first to fall and then Zollars met his fate, Gwen and Jason wound up on the long Par 5 13th hole which was their 4th playoff hole and 31st of the day, both were over the green and dead even! It was now a test of short game nerves with a downhill chip for both! Gwen was able to get up and down while Jason missed his putt to continue the match. The players said there hearts were pounding the whole time, it was very exciting for all of us. That is why we are all out here, the thrill of competition and special moments that we will never forget. Congratulations to the winners: Chad Lucia - Champ Flight Anthony Rea - A Flight Clay Welton - B Flight Gwen Wafford - C Flight Jerry Coleman - D Flight These two round events take time to post we will get them up on the MIAGT site shortly. Skins are up already. Next Tournament Greystone 7-11-09 Greystone is course that everyone loves to play. It is always in great shape, has undulating greens and is said to have the best 3 hole finish in Michigan. We have 80 spots available. Late fee deadline is Monday at 11:00AM. This will be a split 9 start to keep things moving quickly. This is the first tournament of the second half points race so we are all starting from 0 points again. Time for Flight changes We have been notified by the National Director that it is time for players to move back to the proper flight if they need to. This move is important for all of us but most important for players that want to compete at the nationals in Hilton Head. We found last year that we were about 1 flight off from being able to compete for the National Title using strictly our GAM handicaps so this year we are recommending that all players move to the proper flight based on their National handicap and not the GAM. I recommend this move for everyone so that we can keep the flights as consistent as possible. Your national handicap must fall into the ranges specified in the tour manual. You national handicap can be found at http://www.amateurgolftour.net/detroit_tour_pages/standings.asp . You will notice some flight discrepancies already, I will get them fixed before our next tournament. We would rather dominate A flight at the nationals than be last in Champ flight and that follows all the way through each flight. Don't let your ego get in the way of hoisting a national championship trophy. Guidelines: Tour Director has final say in all flight changes. Players must request the flight change via email. If you think you will end up right back in the same flight after a couple tournaments it is not worth moving. Champ Flight 5.x and under A Flight 6.0 to 10.x B Flight 11.0 to 15.x C Flight 16.0 to 20.x D Flight 21+ |

This Issue: Next Event: June 27th Tee Time Posting Guidelines |
Start Preparing for the Open June 27th is our 2nd Major of the year and marks the halfway point of our season. We will be playing 27 holes and it will take most of the day. These 27 hole events are tough and it becomes doubly tough when you are playing Sugarbush which was rated one of the 7 hardest courses in Michigan. We will shotgun start at 9:00 AM, have a lunch after 18 holes and we will head out for the final 9 afterward. There will only be 92 spots available so do not delay too long. Practice rounds for Sugarbush are discounted to the cost of a cart fee. Just show your tour card. Late fee deadline is Monday at 11:00 AM. Forest Akers Update Last
weekend we played Forest Akers at MSU. As usual the course was in great
shape and was a real test for all of our golfers.

Corner:![]() 2008 Tour Directors of the Year Curtis LaFore(Left) Todd Hurley Start thinking about your trip to the National Championship in Hilton Head. We typically head down early the week of the tournament and we play golf and practice everyday. We have a great time staying together in the big house we rent together and there is always stuff to do. We are going to try to get a Ryder Cup tournament with another tour before the big tournament. It is important to get to know the the turf conditions down south, it plays a little different than our northern courses and the grain in the greens can mess you up. Hope you all are planning on going to Hilton Head and representing Michigan. Remember that we want a full field so if someone that qualifies in your flight can't make it we will take the next available person. |

This Issue: Next Event: June 13th Masters Charity Donations Awarded |
MIAGT is Heading to MSU We are going to play our second event at Forest Akers on June 13th which is MSU's championship course. This course is one of my favorites, it is one of the best cared for courses we play. The layout is fair and the course is just beautiful. I hope you can make it to this one because it is surely worth the trip. Split 9 start Champ, A and D on the Front 9, B &C on the back 9. 3 somes Late fee deadline is Monday at 11:00 AM. Masters Charity Update This weekend we had the privilege of visiting Sharon Groff of Children's Miracle Network at Beaumont Hospital. I was excited that we were able to help the Children's Miracle Network, I assumed that the money would go to do things for children and I was pretty happy with that. I did not realize the real difference we were making. After visiting Beaumont's Children's Hospital and finding out how the money is used to purchase equipment, help families stay together and enrich the children's lives while they are sick, I was brought to tears more than once with the success stories and how the staff members go out of there way to help these children find some time to be kids. I thanked god many times that day that we were able to help such a worthwhile charity. Children and their families truly suffer with the horrible diseases and problems that befall these helpless children. The facilities at Beaumont allow the families to stay together and fund the purchase of specialized equipment for the state of the art procedures that are required by these children. I also did not realize that 100% of the money raised goes directly to helping children, there are no administrative costs for this charity. The experience was a life changing look at how tough and unfair life can be, but with the help of organizations like CMN it is a little less tough for these suffering people. In addition to the $5100.00, we presented 2 of the specially framed CMN shirts we had specially made for the auction, the frames have a placard on them that says they are from our tour. The pictures will be hung in the rec room that the children use for crafts projects and putting together the bravery bead strings. Children are awarded these bravery beads when they have to undergo the difficult procedures and reach certain milestones in their recoveries.Frank Sciberras and his wife Michelle also gave the auctioned Masters Flag that was given to Frank by his father who recently passed away. Frank thanked his father and mother for raising him to be the loving person that he is today. This Master's flag is to be given to a former athlete that loves golf and is currently battling cancer just like Jose Marie Olazabal one of the former Master's champions that actually signed the flag. We are a golf tour and we are all about enjoying the true game of golf but is so heartwarming to see that we can come together at least once a year to become a big family working together to make the world a better place for all. You should all be proud of yourselves for your contributions this year and we will continue this proud tradition in 2010. Thanks see you at Forest Akers, |

This Issue: Next Event: April 25th The 1st Major is coming.. Flight Changes Course Etiquette |
Fieldstone Results Are Posted Fieldstone was a long tough day with the weather delays and the winds. Congratulations to the winners: Layne Lucia Champ Flight 76 Mike Fierk A Flight 79 Shawn Campion B Flight 78* Bill Landis C Flight 89* Gwen Wafford D Flight 89* * Scores were modified with likely scores because less than 18 holes were played. Players that did not complete their round should only post the scores for the first 9 holes. The results are posted on the site. Sal and Franks Blog is up. 2008's pictures were deleted and the new pic's are up. Ready for Angels Crossing on Saturday Tee times are up for Angels Crossing. Weather looks like it will cooperate this time. If your not on the tee sheet let me know ASAP. The 1st Major of the year is May 16th The Masters Charity tournament was our biggest event last year, and we have only 100 spots available so don't wait too long to enter. The winner will get the Trophy and the coveted GREEN JACKET. Don't miss out on the fun. And please ask your employer if they will sponsor the event. I will send out the sponsorship forms this weekend. This year we will be trying to build on the success of last year’s MIAGT Masters Tournament. We need sponsors for this event. Please talk to your employer about some sponsorship. Donations are tax deductible.
We are moving players to different flights and different tee boxes to make things even for everybody. We cannot watch every person in every flights official handicap so we rely on the players in each flight to monitor what is going on in their flight. If you notice a player is in the wrong flight let me know and I will review that players history. If you notice that you are not in the proper flight let me know right away so we can get it fixed. Remember changing flights almost always means a point change so the sooner your in the right flight the better. Course Etiquette For the most part players on this tour are very friendly and supportive out on the course, but I have heard reports of players that are behaving poorly and distracting others while they are playing. If you are a player that feels they need to distract opponents so that you have an advantage please find somewhere else to play. Part of the fun of this tour is the friendly atmosphere. If no one wants to play with you then we will not be able to play. |

This Issue: Press Release Word Doc Attached |
Michigan Amateur Tour launches 6th season April 11th The Michigan Amateur Golf Tour is set for its sixth season of providing everyday golfers a chance to tee it up like the pros. We are looking to improve on a record setting 2008 season that had over 200 golfers competing in tournaments across the state. The 2009 Michigan AGT features a new 13-tournament schedule beginning April 11 at the prestigious Eagle Eye GC in Bath MI. Other tour stops include exciting golf venues like: Fieldstone GC in Auburn Hills, Sugarbush Golf Club in Davison, The Glaciers in Washington, Forest Akers GC, which is MSU’s home course in East Lansing, The Emerald in St. Johns and our State Championship, which will be held at The Grande GC in Jackson. One of the highlights of the season is our second annual MIAGT MASTERS CHARITY TOURNAMENT held at Captains Club in Grand Blanc, , last year we gave over $5200.00 to charity and we hope to exceed that for 2009. The Masters is one of our 4 majors in our season; major tournaments earn double points toward the season-long championship for each flight. Tournaments are played on Saturdays, with the top three in every flight taking home trophies and gift certificates from golf retailers. “If you want to experience stroke play golf, this is your chance,” said tour director Curtis LaFore. “Our golfers love the opportunity to get out and play the game the way the pros play. You can tee it up and pretend like your Tiger Woods for the day. ” The tour is open to golfers of all ages and abilities, with members placed in one of five flights based on handicaps. Flights are: Championship (0-5 handicap), A Flight (6-10), B Flight (11-15), C Flight (16-21) and D Flight (21+). If you can break 100 we have a place for you on the tour. Although handicaps are used to place golfers in flights, they’re not used in scoring. Format is gross stroke play under USGA rules. The tour track’s each player’s handicap to ensure proper flight placement. Golfers may join the tour at any time for a $90 Tour Membership fee. Members are allowed to play in all Michigan tournaments, as well as other AGT events around the country. Tournament entry fees range from $80-$105. Those fees include cart and green fees, range balls and prizes, plus we have optional skins, closest-to-the-pin and long drive contests. Results and points standings are posted at: www.miagt.com and on our national website www.amateurgolftour.net. Golfers who finish in the top 10 of their flight receive invitations to the 2009 Amateur Golf Tour Championship, Oct. 24-25 at Palmetto Dunes Resort in Hilton Head, S.C. to compete with over 600 golfers from around the country. Please mention your with the Michigan Amateur Golf Tour for discounted rates for practice rounds. Season Planner is on the site now. Todd Hurley is hard at work with some site upgrades. This week he has launched a new feature called the "Season Planner". The season planner allows you to inform me of your intentions about the tournaments you are planning on attending. You will find a link to the season planner after you log into the MIAGT website with your password. Please take the time to fill out the planner as best you can so we can have a better prediction of tournament attendance. Let us know what you think of the planner and any other things you think would be nice to have on the site. This Issue: Sponsor Update Record Membership Points Race Tournament Sponsors Hole Sponsors Prize Sponsors |
Sponsor Update We are pleased to announce our 2009 season is getting ready to start on April 11th and we want to let all of our current and potential sponsors know about opportunities to work with the Michigan Amateur Golf Tour. We have 13 premier statewide events in addition to our National Championship on October 25th and 26th in Hilton Head SC. We play every other Saturday all summer. Four of our tournaments are Major tournaments just like the pro's. We have regular media coverage of the results of our events. Record numbers for 2008 We had record membership for 2008 with over 200 players competing in events across the state. We are working hard to continue the growth of our tour through marketing and a great reputation in the golf industry. We now have close to 1000 avid golfers on our email and mailing list and we plan to leverage that list to promote our tour and our sponsors. 2nd Annual MIAGT Masters Charity Championship We will again be hosting our Masters charity championship tournament on May 16th at the Captains Club Golf Course in Grand Blanc. This tournament raised over $5000.00 for the Children's Miracle Network last year and we feel it was a good start toward building a great annual event. We would like to build on the success of last year and increase the donation amount. The tour donates all proceeds from the tournament to charity and we would really appreciate your involvement. Gift Cards, Auction Items, Goody Bag Giveaways, food and beverage or any other sponsorship would be appreciated and go a long way to help us give back to our community. Season Points Race needs a name Similar to the Fed-Ex cup for the PGA Tour our season is enhanced with a points race for each of our 5 flights. The points race winner for each flight is awarded a special trophy honoring their achievement as the best in the state for their flight, in addition our tour will pay the entry fee of the winning players to compete with over 600 golfers in our National Tournament in Hilton Head SC. It would be great to have a nice Trophy and or gifts bearing the name of our sponsor to award to the winning players. Ideas may be custom Golf Bags, Towels, Shirts, Hats or whatever you can think of. Fed-Ex and PGA Tour are not affiliated with our tour in any way. Tournament Sponsors We would love to work with you on a sponsorship of one of our Major or regular tournament events. We would name the event after our sponsor, and the majority of the sponsorship funds would go toward event promotion in major markets. The costs are flexible based on your budget. Hole Sponsors Our players love our hole sponsors. The concept is that the low score on a pre-selected hole of our tournament course is awarded a prize for that hole. The results for the hole winners and the sponsor information are permanently posted on the website with the tournament scores. Prize Sponsors We welcome and accept just about any promotional item that we can put in the hands of our players. We make a big deal when announcing winners of special prizes and we are sure to thank our sponsors. |

Corner:![]() 2008 Tour Directors of the Year Golf Show We had a good time meeting many of you at the golf show. The show was well attended and we passed out alot of brochures to prospective players. So far almost everyone I have talked to is returning for 2009. There should be plenty of good competition in every flight. It seems that golf is alive and well even with the slow economy. This Issue: 2009 Season Coming Myrtle Beach Trip Getting Started Goody Bags |
Get Ready for April 11th The MIAGT kicks off its 2009 season at the prestigious Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath MI.
We are looking forward to competing on this championship course to get
the season started in the proper fashion. The schedule is almost
complete we have worked hard to get great courses at the best prices.
It should be an awesome 2009 Season for the MIAGT.Get the clubs out and start practicing!! I have my swing changes almost down and I just want to say watch out "A Flight"!! Myrtle Beach Still some spots left to head down to Myrtle Beach for a pre-season warm up. We will be leaving on Saturday February 21st and stay the week. The cost is only about $20 bucks a day for lodging and we have some great golf deals lined up. If you are interested let me or Mike Case (michaelmcase@yahoo.com) know ASAP. Getting Started on the Tour Not sure what to expect from joining the tour? Well imagine a bunch of fanatic golfers like yourself all getting together to play their hearts out for one of the coveted MIAGT trophies. The atmosphere is like a fun golf league except that we are playing golf the way it is meant to be played. We are all serious during the round but we still have a good time before during and after each tournament. It is time to get started filling out your registration and shirt size so you get a spot on the tour. Goody Bags This year we are giving out Tour Golf Shirts and Hats instead of the old goody bags filled with the little items. This will give the players a little more for their money and we will have the added benefit of helping to promote our tour by wearing them. |
